Problems installing Adobe Reader or Acrobat? Could be because an unsuccessful uninstall attempt, and interrupted installation/uninstallation, etc. Who knows!
I came across a tool that worked in cleaning up a fudged install of Adobe Reader 11 from Adobe Labs.
The Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool removes a standalone installation of Reader or Acrobat, including any preferences and settings that may be preserved during a standard program uninstall. The tool has both a user interface as well as a command line interface.
